Money in The Pipeline: KPC Volleyball Club Celebrates League Win with Sh2m Award

The Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Managing Director Joe Sang says the corporation’s women’s volleyball team must now move on and conquer Africa after dominating the national Women’s Volleyball League.

Sang spoke as he awarded the team Sh2 million for their outstanding performance in the just concluded Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) National League where they emerged winners for the first time since 2022, defeating rivals DCI to 2-0 in a best of three sets decider.

Sang reassured the team of continued support and encouraged them to continue with the same zeal on to conquering the continent.

‘‘We’ll continue supporting the team and I can assure you that with a lot of hard work and support from the company, which is the sponsor, we should be able to see this team again retain the trophy, but more importantly, we want to go for the Africa Championship trophy,” he said.

The MD further revealed that the company will roll out a financial literacy programme to educate the players on financial prudence, which will be a basis of their success in life.

“We are immensely proud of the KPC Volleyball Club for their extraordinary achievement. Their resilience and determination on and off the field are truly inspiring and in that regard, we shall give them an additional Sh1 million award as a token of our appreciation for their hard work and a commitment to supporting their continued success,” said Faith Boinett, Board Chairperson of the Kenya Pipeline Company.

“This victory is not just about winning a league, it’s about breaking barriers and setting a powerful example for young women across Kenya, and we look forward to seeing them soar to even greater heights,” she added.

The team’s head coach Omondi noted that he is working on imparting several skills sets to improve on missed opportunities.

“We have gotten the best support from the company, and we intend to do better in the coming season, working on our skills and ensure that the trophies that missed this season are brought home next season,” said coach Omondi.

Apart from the league’s victory, the team also celebrated notable individual awards with their outside hitter Daisy Letting, who was named Most Valuable Player, Emmaculate Nekesa who was recognized as the Best Setter while captain Gladys Ekaru who was named Best Middle Blocker and Loice Simiyu who won the Best Opposite title.

The team also celebrated players who got selected to the national team, “Malkia Strikers”, namely Emmaculate Nyongesa, Celestine Nyongesa, Loice Simiyu, Gladys Ekaru, Lydia Emokol, Elizabeth Sokoiyo, Mariam Musa, and Daisy Leting.

Sharon Arusei and Gaudencia Makokha have been selected to Team Kenya for the upcoming Continental Beach Volleyball Championship set to take place from June 23-30 in Tetouan and Martil, Morocco.

Naomi Too, the team’s assistant coach, has been appointed to Team Kenya as the beach volleyball Coach, Girls Team, for the upcoming First Africa School Games, which will be held in Algiers, Algeria, from July 26 to August 5.

With the conclusion of the season, the team is now gearing up for the upcoming Kenya Cup, which will start on July 5 at the Nyayo Stadium Gymnasium.
